Re: Uyghur Separatism and the Politics of Islam in China's Western Frontier

Very interesting. I would say I've read at least 10 articles about Chinese Muslim invovlement in international terrorism since 9-11. So far, every Uyghur quoted has said "I'm only here to get training to take back home to China." I wish China would appreciate the fact that they're largely creating their own problems with the Uyghurs and that they may be playing with fire. As you point out, it's much easier to get young people with no exposure to their own native religion to take up a radical form of it.
I think that unfortunately the rapid rise of the Falun Gong movement gave the Chinese government a big scare. Can they ease up on the Muslims while continuing to suppress the Falun Gong believers? Or will they see the current worldwide fear of Muslims and terrorism as a perfect cover to continue their policies?
