I dont' have the book in front of me, but IIRC he doesn't really address it much other than to say "I was wrong.' He has flagellated himself in greater detail in TNR and The Atlantic, both. I think he feels pretty crummy about it, and he views this book as a kind of penance. Even so, he doesn't pull any punches that I can see.
