Re: Re: Re: Chrenkoff Syndrome and Its Cure [updated]

I think you're right. And the President getting beat up for "rosy scenarioitis" also has put some pressure on all the good news bears to at least look like they're trying to be a bit more realistic (e.g. Malynn, though it's clearly a challenge). Yesterday's good news bulletin by Chrenkoff was quite well done. Not overly "rah, rah" and pom-poms. But quite a number of useful initiatives identified that give a sense of what people are trying to accomplish. Chrenkoff also did a longer piece on "post totalitarian stress disorder" that is excellent -- used the Polish experience to describe a number of factors that go into my formula that "it takes at least a generation." That it's a change in mentality as much as anything for real institution-building. He alluded to the PTSD story in the most recent "good news" bulletin, but edited it down so much that it lost both its punch and its compelling story line. I'm going to try to do a comment on his longer post -- I think there are a couple of other points worth adding to his description. But it's not only a good corrective in terms of the context for his "good news" bulletins, it's an excellent piece in its own right.
