In terms of sheer enjoyment, Charlie Wilson's War is pretty hard to match. It's like a Hollywood movie in book form. In terms of shaping my thinking about the world, State-Building and The Pentagon's New Map have proven to be pretty influential. Six Days of War is a pretty outstanding war book. The Trail of Political Islam is a must-read and a handy resource that I turn to again and again.
