Among the reasons I opposed the invasion of Iraq were that I oppose any war thta doesn't have stronger domestic support, I believed that Saddam was containable (whether we had the will to contain Saddam is a different subject), I felt the Administration erred in guaranteeing the territorial integrity of Iraq, I was skeptical on the prospects for setting up an acceptable replacement government in Iraq, I hope that partisans of all stripes have enough realism to recognize that we need a stable state in Iraq that's capable of defending itself against the kind of internal strife that's going on now. If what's actually happening is that the Bush Administration is, indeed, preparing to withdraw U. S. forces in Iraq without anything but nominal Iraqi control of their government, it's a thorough-going disaster and no one should rejoice in the outcome.
