Iraq's social groups prepare for elections - history and new alliances

Another noteworthy item from the UK's Prospect magazine -- a personal field trip to understand better the various ethnic, political and sectarian groups and how they and their leaders are positioning themselves. Setting aside the rather dubious enthusiasm the author seems to have for Ahmad Chalibi -- which may indeed be proof positive of the man's legendary charm -- in "The Coming of Shiia Iraq" (November 2004 issue) Bartle Bull leads us on a fascinating journey.
Helps put some meat on the bones of the discussion of Bondra's post on the machinations surrounding the Iraqi elections.
